THIS IS A PREVIEW OF AN ONGOING COLLABORATION BETWEEN THE GORGEOUS MUSICIAN KAKI KING AND MYSELF.
In Order to Listen Better, We Will Teach You How to See:
A Dialogue between 4 hands
Our collaboration is a multimedia exploration of the role of data in our lives, and a cl for ata Humanism, in which we reclaim subjectivity on how data is captured and collected, and embrace the subjectivity that invariably comes with how data is represented.
There is a benefit in what hands - and hands only - and a manual approach to observing can bring to the process that computers cannot.
What Kaki and I share is not our field of expertise, but our hands at work, what we are aiming at doing together, is finding a way to use data to deconstruct and reveal the textures of what makes this music that she plays so beautiful.
To do so we’ve created a visualization that we’d like you to enjoy while Kaki plays:
We premiered our collaboration at Design Indaba, the video of our performance will be on-line soon. For now enjoy the data-artwork and the music.
